Homemade Cherry Juice for Canning
And if your trees are still too young—like ours—there’s nothing better than a neighbor calling to say, “Come pick some cherries!”
This year, we canned homemade tart cherry juice, and it’s quickly become a pantry favorite. It’s a little sour, a little sweet, and so refreshing.
We used a steam juicer to pull the juice from the cherries. Then we poured it straight into clean jars and water bath canned it for 10 minutes. So simple!
We love having cherry juice on hand. You can drink it plain, mix it with lemonade, or use it later to make syrup, jelly, or even a glaze for meats.
Canning is a big part of homesteading. It helps us save what’s in season and enjoy it later. Whether you grow your own cherries or gather them from kind friends, turning them into shelf-stable juice is a smart and simple way to build your pantry.
It’s moments like these—picking, juicing, canning—that remind us the homestead life is full of sweet rewards.
